The level of involvement of Dari books in the third and fourth grades of Afghanistan with literacy skills based on the Pearls International Study (PIRLS)

Abstract

The present study tries to investigate the level of involvement of Dari books of the third and fourth grades of Afghanistan with the processes of reading comprehension based on Perls's study. The research population is the contents of Dari books of the third and fourth grade of elementary school, which according to Perls' study, includes students in the age range of 9 years. From these books, the sections "Sentences" and "Initiative Writing" from the book of the third door and "Read and write", "Say and listen" and "Tell your friends" from the book of the fourth door; It has been studied as a society. The research method is content analysis, and the data collection tool was the categorization tables, which were set based on the four main reading comprehension skills in Perls' study. These skills include: 1. Focusing and retrieving information that is explicitly stated in the text; 2. direct conclusion; 3. Interpreting and completing ideas and information; 4. Examining and evaluating language content and elements related to the text. The results of the research showed that the degree of involvement of the third and fourth grade Dari book content with the main reading comprehension skills is different, based on Perls' study; That is, the third grade Dari book has the most emphasis on the process of "checking and evaluating the content" and the least emphasis on the processes of "concentrating and retrieving information", "drawing direct conclusions" and "interpreting and combining information". In the fourth door book, the most emphasis was placed on the process of "checking and evaluating the content" and the least emphasis on the process of "interpreting and combining information". In addition, the degree of involvement of various parts of the third and fourth Dari book with the main skills of reading according to Perl's study is also different. Also, the processes of "concentrating and retrieving information", "direct conclusion" and "interpreting and combining information" were more in the book of the fourth Dari than in the book of the third Dari, and only the process of emphasizing "checking and evaluating the content" in the book of the third Dari was more than the book of the third Dari. It is the fourth door.
