Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Social Competence Training Based on Felner Model on Rate of the Victimization Afghan immigrant students. Research design was a quasi-experimental method along with pre-test/post-test and follow-up with control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all Afghan female high school students in Savog bolagh schools in the 98-99 academic year. 30 individuals were selected who scored high on California Bullying Victimization Scale and were divided into experimental and control groups. Participants in both groups responded to the California Bullying Victimization Scale and bullying Illinois Scale. Then, for the experimental group, 10 weekly sessions of Social Competence Based on Felner Model program were conducted. At the end of training sessions and 1/5 months after training, participants responded again to the the California Bullying Victimization Scale and bullying Illinois Scale. Mixed analysis of variance and Bonferroni correction test were used for data analysis. Results showed that Social Competence Training Based on Felner Model significantly reduced the Victimization behaviors, bullying behaviors and scuffle behaviors in Afghan immigrant students, and these results were consistent across the 1/5-month follow-up. Overall, the result of this study demonstrates the effectiveness of Felner's Social Competence program in improving the Social Competence and ultimately behavior of Victimization Afghan immigrant students and can be effective in the prevention field.
